Today you will head to the town of Otavalo, either on foot (a recommended one hour hike on a back road) or a ten minute drive). This is truly one of the most interesting towns in Ecuador, where the local Quechua indigenous culture is not only plainly visible, but in the ascendency.

The town´s famous craft market is one of the most visited sites in Ecuador, and with good reason. The market is filled with interesting colourful and sometimes rare objects and crafts. Do remember to bargain, but only if you´re interested. The market is held every day on one of the town squares at the foot of the majestic Mt. Imbabura. And to help you navigate the market your hosts will present you with a short explanation of the market´s and provide a map of the area. During the stay at the market we visit local workshops of handcrafts in Peguche.

At Zuleta, you will have a two-hour hike to the hacienda’s condor reintroduction project, stopping along the way to see some pre-Inca mounds.

You will visit Cotopaxi National Park. From here, weather permitting, you will be able to see the snowcapped summits of both the Cotopaxi and the Antisana volcanoes.

Visit Cotopaxi Interpretation center to learn about the history of its major eruptions as well as the local flora and fauna.

Later, you will go to Limpiopungo lake and discover the area by walking around it. Optional, if you feel like walking, after a 2-hour hike you will arrive at Cotopaxi’s J. Ribas refuge (4,800 m) where you will have a nice view of the volcano and the Andes.

Today after breakfast we will hit the road toward a traditional indigenous marketplace around the Cotopaxi area. Local markets is part of the Ecuadorian traditions and culture, it is the place where the indigenous communities supply themselves with food and accessories.
